New pledge to further China-Russia military cooperation

One must, on occasion, look from local skirmishes on the World Conflicts game board to take an assay on more global movements, which operate much more slowly, in a larger but less-notable ways  just below the surface of Iraq, Palestine-Israel, Afghanistan-India, Yemen, Nigeria, Libya, Egypt, et al.

Indeed, one might consider global conflicts exactly in exactly the way we think of the ocean, with flare-ups in Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan grabbing the daily attention in Reuters and AP feeds as the observable surface conditions. Then one must go a level deeper to study the effect of how the U.S.-Israel alliance might be prefiguring and acting upon the surface motion of daily conflict we can more easily observe at the surface.

At some point, well below either of these levels, we must guess at the effect of the Moon’s influence on the deepest groundswell activity, which is the controller of every wave and current motion above it. From the news  perspective, we look at major Alliances and larger battlegrounds. At the deepest level we study East and West, the Russia-China-Asia axis as players against the US-Europe-North America alliance.

So it is not small news that, through the Xinhua news agency, we learn that on September 23, Guo Boxiong, Vice Chairman of China’s Central Military Commission, met in Moscow with Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov on the subject of bilateral military relations. Officially, the event marked the 10th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness (no really, that’s what it’s called), but the pleasant exchanges after this signing do not compare to the latest meeting during which they announced a kind of unofficial engagement between the countries, aiming at an intermarriage of military troops, and more importantly, a secret signal that they were now committed to guarding each other’s back.

It was meant as a clear signal to the U.S./West that both of those countries are tiring of the damage the U.S. is doing in the Middle East, they are tiring of the cat and mouse game the U.S. is playing at in Pakistan and Afghanistan (vis . India), and they have about had it up to here with the Israel tune the U.S. seems quite content to dance to. Most importantly, it was a message that India is still up for grabs and this more meaningful signal of the Russian/China alliance was meant to draw that country into their growing alliance. On the global stage, Russia has just made a quiet but major move in choosing up sides toward any future global confrontation.

The news was barely a blip from Reuters on Friday. One wonders if anyone in Washington even noticed.
