It’s not easy to be poor

caring for out families

By Kathryn Sias

It certainly is not!  It’s not easy to be poor!

My family was split. On one end, my fathers family was an established middle class American family. They needed no sponsors, no government assistance or care packages, they were blessed more than others, not particularly more hard working.

On my mother’s side, there were no blessings. Simple, unfortunate events led to a much poorer lifestyle. Both of her parents held jobs, but because of all sorts of “fate” , for a lack of a better term, they had very little to survive.  Their home was older and not so attractive, but the love on the inside was equally as compelling as the best families in the world.

It’s not easy to be poor, this is true.  Why do some struggle so hard, while others have better “fate”?  It doesn’t seem fair.  Saying, “That’s the way it goes”, doesn’t ease the pain of a poor person facing more struggles than his next door neighbor.

We are truly never poor, if we work hard and have love in the home.  But what if you are out of work, and cannot make ends meet.  No matter how much love in the home we have, at that point, it begins to destroy the family dynamic.  The stress of being out of work is almost unbearable.

I remember both grandfathers, having lived through the great depression. Grandmothers, both of them, sewing dresses or pants out of old used flour sacks. They spoke of it all the time.  How would another “great depression” effect those who have more than the average bear?

Could we really live off the land? Could we really?  I know a lot of people who are growing gardens these days, just like the old-timer’s, living off canned goods that they grew in their own garden.

It’s not easy to be poor, and there’s really no reason for it, except for the greed of those who finally get a pocket full of money, who don’t know how to share. Well, maybe that comment is a bit unreasonable but it feels like it to the poor person.

If you’re holding onto a structured settlement, or know someone who is, contact us today.  We will help put money back into your pocket for real needs, not just investing, but daily living expenses, home loans almost in default, or other debt relief.

We know it’s not easy to be poor.  I loved my poor grandparents, better than anyone, and I will never mind being poor myself.  Perhaps someday, the world economy will find a way to have true “Justice for All”.
